So, you're new to the quiz this season and you're scratching your head - what are the Playoffs again?

First things first - don't confuse them with the Summer Leagues - the Playoffs are the end of the regular season and decide the overall Pub Quiz Champion for 2009/10.

Think of it as the superbowl of the quiz.

All that sweat, all that pain over the last 9 months - and if you have ranked in the top 24 teams you get to play in the Playoffs - in one-on-one to-the-death quiz matchups. First in the quarter finals, then if you win you matchup, you qualify for the semi final and so on.

Don't worry if you didn't qualify or you get knocked out - you are still welcome to come to the quiz. Every night will be run as a normal quiz, with nightly winners and the accumulator as normal. The Playoffs run in addition to the normal quiz.

The Playoffs currently look like this (after the semi-finals):

* Something very unusual and a first for the Quiz happened here. Von Beruf Endverbraucher didn't turn up after winning their quarter-final matchup. That has happened before and normally then the losing quarter-finalist goes through in their place. But Junkerkompanie didn't come to the Quiz either (yes, they would have had a second bite at the cherry). So Big Load were resurrected as the highest scoring losers from the quarter-finals. And didn't it do them well...

Playoff rules are simple.
  1. It's a one-on-one matchup - winner takes all and goes through to the next round.
  2. A tie-breaker will be used to decide tied matchups.
  3. You may only play for your regular team. No switching once (if) your team is eliminated.
  4. Play in your teams - don't trade information with others.
  5. If a team doesn't turn up, they will replaced with the next best team.
  6. The final is a mini-league.
  7. All teams are welcome - normal quiz rules apply whether you are involved in the Playoff games or not.
  8. All quizmaster rulings are final - not even God can appeal.
  9. NO PHONES!!
