Every year, at the Office Pub, there is a quiz league. It runs from October
until the end of June. You almost certainly know this, because you play in it and that's why you are reading this page
now.
In July
the Playoffs begin. Let's call this the business end of the quizzing year. In fact, it's very simple.
The playoffs are a final three week tournament, before the summer leagues start. They decide who the Graz Office Pub
Quiz Champions are for the season.
Just like American sports, the playoffs favour the strong and punish the weak. Well, sort of anyway
- actually in a one off head-to-head, often the strong get kicked in the teeth and the weak waltz on through to the final.
Ah yes, the Quiz is simply a mirror of life.
How do the Playoffs work?
The
top 24 teams over the course of the year qualify for the final playoffs. Check the final league table - are you above the
red line?
If you're not in the top
24 come and quiz anyway. The Quiz runs as normal and if one of the top 24 doesn't show, maybe we can sneak you in. Besides,
you can still win the quiz, just like any other quiz night without the pressure of fighting for your quizzing survival.
The Format
It's a tournament between the top 24 teams who've been playing during the course of
the year. And it's seeded. That means the first seed plays against the 24th seed, 2nd against 23rd and so on. It's
a straight head-to-head knockout on the night - all you have to do to go through to the next round is beat the team you are
pitted against.
Still
not sure? Have a look at the table below.
So,
during the playoffs, it doesn't really matter where a team comes on the night, as long as they beat their opponents. Then
they go through to the next round.
In the event of
a tie, there will, naturally, be a tie-breaker question.
Finally, the 6 teams who won two in-a-row, go to the Grand Final, where the
top placed team takes all the glory at the end of the night and gets their picture taken holding a ridiculous trophy.
